Emulsion paints consist of finely dispersed synthetic resin particles, pigments, fillers and water as a carrier medium. After application, the water evaporates and the resin particles form a cohesive, elastic film. They are suitable for interior and exterior use and are available in numerous sheen levels. They adhere particularly well to plastered surfaces and plasterboard. For exterior use, special façade emulsion paints contain additional binders and UV stabilisers. Emulsion paints are low-odour, fast-drying and easy to apply, making them the most widely used paint type in the decorating trade. Wet scrub resistance according to EN 13300 determines classification into grades.
