Stucco lustre is a traditional plastering technique in which a thin, often pigmented layer of hydrated lime, pigments and soap is applied to a fresh substrate and then compacted and polished with a trowel or felt polishing pad. The mechanical pressure aligns the lime crystals, creating a reflective surface. Stucco lustre belongs to the family of classic marbled plasters and is used in monument conservation and high-end interior design. When correctly executed, the durability of these surfaces is exceptional. Modern products adopt the same principle, combining it with synthetic resin components for improved adhesion and extended workability.
